Tobias Fike created his paintings in the exhibition with atmospheric conditions – namely, the sun. Using the sun to burn holes into a bare linen canvas. In Fike’s self-portrait, the artist photoshops sun spots onto his forehead and hands. Mimicking the “burns” or damage to the surface of the linen in his paintings. These burns also reference constellations and star patterns that contain stars 40 light years away, and thus relate back to the artist’s personal narrative (in this instance, his age).
