Linda Nguyen Lopez: ʎpoqǝɯos | Project Room
Brimming with personalities all their own, each Furry controls the negative space around it. At times lopsided or open in the middle, Lopez’s works embody the confidence of an artist in her prime.
Meticulously hand-built via hundreds of stained porcelain and glazed earthenware components individually attached to create each work, Lopez’s Furries are an amalgamation of inventive form, playfulness, and material mastery. Though chemically similar to stone, Lopez’s colorful Furries appear at first to be soft or squishy objects that have been frozen mid-dance. In her smaller works, porcelain’s soft, glowing qualities reach their peak in the smooth, lobed surfaces of each sculpture.
