Stinson received his BFA from Colorado State University and his MFA from Tufts University/School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. He was the recipient of Colorado Council on the Arts Director's Grant.
His work is placed in the collections of the Phoenix Art Museum, the Denver Art Museum, The Whitney Collection at the Buffalo Bill Center of the West, The Autry Museum of the American West, and the Art in Embassies Program in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Don has had prominent showings at The Joslyn Art Museum (Omaha, NE), The Phoenix Art Museum (Phoenix, AZ), The Nicolaysen Art Museum (Casper, WY), The Museum of Contemporary Art Denver (Denver, CO), and Artist Space (New York, NY). Don’s work has been featured in The New York Times and Time.
